Power Major Tractor seat
Power Major Tractor seat
I have a late 1950's model Fordson Power Major Tractor. There seems to have been a design change around 1960 as to the seat configuration. Has someone got a part number and/or photo of the applicable tractor seat for Power Major tractors prior to 1960?
Re: Power Major Tractor seat
An exta comfort seat was available as an optional extra on the Power Major, cost was 8 pounds 10/- ($17.00)Aust in 1959.

Page 16 of the parts manual shows all of the seats available from Fordson and the part numbers. I would suspect one of the ones with the adjustable fore/aft bracket is what you want. My PM had the Delux less H.P.L. (whatever HPL is

Hi Simco, where are you at?
Pat
My Power Major has the unit on the lower right, my Supers have the unit in the middle.

This is on my Dads 58, I have never seen another and do not know what the spring loaded clip in the middle just below the top shaft does, I can only assume there are parts missing or it is some what home made.

I belive this is the standard unit.

Plane Jane industrial.

These Rest-O-Ride units were fairly common over here in the US. (Probably not a rest-O-Ride but I can't make out the tag, maybe Comfort Ride)

Re: Power Major Tractor seat
The seat on the 58 major is the same as the one on our 58 major in New Zealand. The spring held the front of the seat down. Our major was a live drive model with low ratio down high up.
Cheers Les.

Re: Power Major Tractor seat
Hi Les, could you take a picture of that, I apparently am missing something as there is nothing for it to attach to.
My dads Major has the live PTO as well, other than the wheels they are probably almost identical units.
Thanks.

The 58 seat is the same as I have on my 1960 Power Major. It is correct for that P.M. era. Dandy Dave!

Dave, can you get me a picture of what that spring loaded clip hooks to?

Re: Power Major Tractor seat
hi Pat,
There should be a steel flat strap welded accross the front of the side rails (approx 20mm x 3mm) and the sprind clip hooks on that which keeps the seat down.
Hope this helps, i cant get a photo to show you

Re: Power Major Tractor seat
Thanks Mark, I do believe you solved the mystery for me! I just went out and looked at the front of the mounting brackets and found the remains of some welds. It looks like I need to weld a piece on as you described and then flip the middle bracket around so the clip will then engage onto it.

Hi Pat,
Is this the photo you are looking for?

There could be a conflict with your hydraulic lines.
Is it a double acting remotecontrol?

Yup. That is how a spare seat I puchased from a tractor breaker looks. My latch was also missing, but the spare seat will make it complete again. Dandy Dave!

I have the same seat on my mk2 e1a if you undo the small clip the seat effectively pushes back meaning when you are getting on or off their is more room and it avoids getting mud on your seat

Re: Power Major Tractor seat
My Fordson Power Major has starting revving excessively once in use for 10-15 minutes and blowing excessive smoke. Suggestions?
