Hi, I'm in the process of attempting to register my major - on the v55/5 form it requires a chassis number - I have looked at a friends majors v5 - and it has a chassis number e.g c98765 -- plus him engine number 08c etc--- so my query is as to where do I find the seperate chassis number on the tractor ?! To go along with my engine number on the form :scratchhead:

Hi, unfortunatly it's just sorta a skid unit - And there was no plate on the fire wall - I ve been told that it may be something like and actual casting on the engine or gearbox - is it a requirement to need the chassis number when registering ?! :scratchhead:

The chassis number on a Fordson major is the same as the engine number, there is no chassia number.
I've just checked my V5, and the box for the chassis number has the engine number. The box for the engine number is blank.
Early majors had the engine number stamped near the starter, and on a plate on the firewall
Late majors it is stamped at the top of the block under number four injector.
Good luck with the registration, I found a trip to the local DVLC office speeded matter up.

i think it might be because i had to provide a photo of "rusty" and that plate so you could read the number as well

Your friends tractor may be a 1957 or before tractor, which had the engine number stamped onto a plate which would be rivited to the firewall.
If the engine was later changed, then it would end up with two numbers, with the number on the firewall being taken as the chassis number.
let us know how the registration goes.
