Hi there
Looking to buy a fordson major as a restoration project,I have a few questions. How can I identify model and year of tractor , there is no log book and the farmer didn't own from new and has no documents.
Can I acquire a new log book somehow , so that I can make vehicle road legal.Any dos and donts to be wary of when looking to buy, should I be asking any specific questions. Can someone suggest a ballpark figure for a reasonable condition 50 year old fordson.Any help greatly appreciated.
Pip

And, the most important tip if your going to buy a fordson for a restoration...
Beware of bitsas
especially if it will be a show tractor.

A bitsa is a fordson made up form many bits from other fordsons

, eg a gearbox from a 56 major and an engine from a 52 major all mated too the back end of a 59 power major. In order to determine if the tractor is a bitsa or not you need to compare the casting codes, if they are all within a month or 2 then It should be all original

The other designation of a "bitsa" is a Fordson Major ASP (All Spare Parts).

Serial numbers-casting codes.
