Brake Cables

I wonder if anyone can help me (I'm new on here so bear with me!!)
Have treat myself to a very rusty old Major, one of the first tractors I ever drove.
Haven't dated it yet but it has drum brakes. The brake cables aren't good and have been looking round for replacements.
There seems to be quite a wide variation on the prices quoted by the various component suppliers - would be grateful for a bit of guidance.
Thanks

Welcome to the Boards and a Happy New Year.
I got the cables for mine from Speedograph-Richfield, I had to send them the brass fitting that bolts onto the back of the brake drum but the cables have worked very well for around 10 years now. They are not cheap items but then neither is running into someone never mind the damage it will do to your tractor.
Speedograph make rev counter cable and rev counters as well, give them a "Google".

Just to add my sixpenneth worth to Brian's excellent advice, I found the nylon sleeved cable to be far inferior (in terms of durability), compared to the armoured sleeve cable, as originally designed. I was lucky to get a genuine (armoured sleeve) Fordson LH one with a box of spares from a closing down agric engineers about 9 years ago and fitted that to my Major at the same time as a new (nylon sleeved) RH one supplied by one of our many pattern part suppliers. After 8 years, the LH one works fine, yet the RH one became very stiff and unworkable after just 2 years, leading to the RH brake binding. Cue the fitting of a replacement with armoured sleeve and no problems since. Regards Tim E
