Dropping oil in backend

On with dropping the oil in the rear axle. What's the best way to clean it out after the oil is out. And what's the best way to get the last drop in the bottom out as it's a pain to get in.

Depends on how thorough you want to be. Strictly speaking, clean is clean, so I'd have the hydraulic cover off and get in there and give it a full going-over. It would cost you a little extra work getting the cover off, and a new gasket for the lid, but the gains would be worth it. The thought of putting over £100 worth of new oil on top of the gunge that collects in the rear end over fifty years is not a good one! Having said that, the gunge/sediment in question is stuck to the floor of the casing and is unlikely to move. You pays your money .....
Don't forget to remove the basket strainer and clean. Magnetic bolts too.
Best

Get a High Pressure washer, even if you have to rent one, and have at it. Mineral Spirits and a brush also works to loosen the heavy stuff up that you can reach. A combination of the two will work wonders. Dandy Dave!
