engine hours rpm meter

I think I am a bit out of luch first the 6 cyl is broken down an now there is a problem with the rpm meter from the 4 cyl new performance , the hours are still working but the rpm is shown just 0.
I am not happy with that because it is stil the first meter and it has now 17000 + hour on the clock.

Just want to know has anybody taken the meter apart and what can I expect, other wise I go just try and see what happens, I have a new one for spare
