Those of you that used to read the old Forum, will know that about 6 months ago, I found a Fordson Industrial motor at the dump, and couldn't bear to see it go to waste.
It ended up in my shed, and this week, it came to life.
After completely stripping and checking over, it was reassembled.
2x of the pistons were stuck in the liners, internally was half full of water and gravel, and was missing a water pump, starter motor and injector pump.
It came out of a boat, but did have the tractor sump on it. I think it had been recently rebuilt, as it showed little wear. The bearings were all good, and gaskets also.
I was able to get away with doing rings, gaskets, water pump, servicing the injectors and fitting a tractor exhaust manifold, instead of the marine manifold.
As it was a spare time(whats that) project, during reassembly, I fitted the rocker shaft and then left it for a couple of months. When trying to fire it up, it would fire but not run. After checking the timing and spill timing, I finally remembered that I had not set the valve clearances, as I had also recut the the valves seats and valves.
Once the swear words were said, and valves set, it fired straight up.
Sounds nice too. It's hard to beat the sound of nice running Fordson.
It will probably end up in my 57 Major.

I did have some photo's of when I brought it home from the dump, and of it all stripped down in pieces, but I lost my hard drive few weeks ago, so lost the lot, but that another story.
Thanks

Hi Kev
I thought that I lost my hard drive, too, but my son took it apart and found out that it was the mother board instead. He built me a new computer with 1/3 more processor speed, double the RAM, and an 8x bigger hard drive. He took all the important stuff off of my old HD and put it on the new one. I had most of my documents and pictures backed up, but I would have lost a few things if the HD had stopped turning.
I'm glad to hear that your "FARD" engine is running. Does your '57 Major need an engine now, or is this one a spare?

My Major does need a new set of rings, as it did get HOT one day, due to a leaking water pump and broken temp guage.
The spare motor will someday go into the Major, and then the smokey motor could go into the Dexta, maybe.
Don't know about the Dexta bit yet. Anybody done one yet?
Too many other projects to do before that could happen.
