New performance super major (what type key, light switch ?)

Post by emptyhead »

Hi
Can anyone please tell me what type of key switch/light switch should be on this tractor ?
Alsom if I was to buy a new complete wiring loom, can someone adapt a new loom to suit me having an altenator instead of a dynamo so I don't have to cut / adjust a new loom ?

You would not have to cut or mutilate your new wiring loom if replacing a dynamo with an alternator. You need to get rid of the old regulator [assuming your new alt. has an inbuilt one, as all modern ones do] and join together the various wires made to connect to the old regulator as per the Forum post dated May 25th 2012 under the heading "Correct wiring for an Alternator".
Two things to bear in mind, though: The battery must be negative earth and I strongly suggest you run a new, upgraded, 50 amp wire from the alternator to the battery and tape up the one for the original dynamo in your new loom.

Cheers Pavel
But I now think I will put it back to original and fit a dynamo again as I would be interested in this little beauty being original.
I spoke to a supplier who had a starting solenoid for me and he said a dynamo was approx. £65 and £25 for the regulator..
Tyring to learn what I can about the major and fix its leaks and problems and maybe get a little use out of it before I tidy it up. :)
