This photo was taken today. Could have been fifty years ago. Well, not really. Fifty years ago the tractor would have been one year old. I doubt it looked this clapped out then!
See any other anachronisms if this was fifty years ago?
Best, Adrian.

Scene from yesteryear
Re: Scene from yesteryear
Since you asked, I doubt the telephone call box sign was there 50 years ago and the rail grade crossing treatment seems to be pretty recent. Love the look of the honest working tractor! Nice picture.
Never give up!

My front weights wouldn't have been around then either. The correct ones cost an arm and a leg, and that's if you can find them.

Hi,
pictures from that time that I know mostly are black/white or one color (green?) is nearly missing. So the quality is too good to be from that time, at least from my point of view (and age, I'm younger than my tractor).
And yes, the condition after one year of use is nearly impossible.

Re: Scene from yesteryear
50 years back the stop look listen sign may not have been seen as an essential, but if so it would probably have been cast (I was going to say Gill Sans - the font - wasn't about but on checking it goes back to the 1920's) also no small coal or clinker in evidence

Re: Scene from yesteryear
This level crossing is close to the farm where I keep my tractor. The crossing exists in a kind of time warp. Half a mile further up the track there's a modern crossing with all the bells and whistles. [Well, to be fair, there aren't any bells or whistles . Should have said klaxons! . ] Why this one hasn't been upgraded, I don't know. There's even a paraffin burner in the cast iron lamps on top of the gates - you can smell it burning. You have to phone the railwayman at the local junction box to ask if it is safe to cross. If he says to wait, I half expect to see a steam engine come by!
