Not sure if i have the right inlet/exhaust valves

Post by Majorlad »

Hello i recently bought a 1954 fordson major and am in the process of restoring it. I have got a full engine overhaul kit but the valves in the kit are different to the existing ones, i asked a lad about it and he reckons the wrong ones may have been in it already, also got the head skimmed and crankshaft ground down,
have pictures of the valves but not sure how to attach to the message
If its not blue it wont do ..... seriously

Hi
Welcome to the forum :) and to the world of Fordson tractors, and the strong possibility of mixed and matched parts over the last 60 or so years  .
At the top of the pages where you posted here is an announcement section, the top posting tells you how to add pictures. It's quite the performance but if you follow that you will be able to post pictures. Would be nice to see some of the whole project your working on to :) .
Regards Robert

You have run into a problem that seems to be surfacing with after-market parts suppliers. Back in 1954 the Major suffered from burning out exhaust valves so rotator caps were fitted on the exhaust and this is what you have. Lorries and Industrial engines did not suffer from this problem so no caps were fitted in these applications.

The original valves are still available but it is easier for suppliers to put the industrial or lorry valve in the kits. They will work but you have to buy cotters and caps as well.
