E27N front axle in a E1A Major ??

........

Dear Collective think tank,

My 1955 E1A Fordson New Major Diesel has a front axle that has " E 27 N " cast into it ( along with some other numbers )

Does this mean it has an axle from the earlier E27N that someone has fitted to it ??

Do the front axle assemblies from an E27 N fit to the E1A's ??

One other thing that is puzzling me..............

My tractor seems to have originally been painted yellow..........kinda like Caterpiller yellow and then painted the normal blue over the top of that.

The yellow doesn't look like a primer paint either.

Doesn't sound right to me :scratchhead: ?

Or is it just an Australian tractor thing :scratchhead: ??

I'm going to have a closerer look tomorrow with a paint scraper and my optic nerve ( eyes ) to make sure.

Hello Ozmajor,

All new major and power majors had the same front axle assembly as the E27N Major row crop version had. Casting and part numbers therefore not changed. You will find casting dates in a slightly different format to engine and gearbox casting codes. They can give an idea whether the axle is original to your tracor or not.

The axle will probably be original, swapping isnt often necessary.

OK, thanks Emiel, I thought that maybe the front axle had been swapped over to an E27N over the years to keep it going, it's had a replacement engine it would seem by the engine number, done around 1965/66 or so from the engine serial number on the replacement engine ,so I thought maybe other parts might have been swapped over as well.

Thanks

Terry.
