Hello Daryl
You've got an engine that's fifty, maybe sixty years old. After such a long period, which has seen off most other vehicles and their engines, your engine now deserves a proper overhaul to resolve the issues you are experiencing. Ideally this would mean a full strip down of the engine so that you can get at and clean everything, including, and crucially, the oil galleries that distribute the oil around the block, to the bearings and up to the rocker assembly. Trying to flush the system as you suggest would lay you open to all kinds of potential problems.
This may not be what you wanted to hear, but a rebuilt engine revitalises the whole tractor and is well worth the effort, if you are in a position to do it.
Best, Adrian.
