problem with lift arms on 57 major

Post by thestig246 »

Good morning folks, i hope your all enjoying your bank holiday

i have abit of a problem with my major, unfortunatly i cant get the arms low enough on the major, when fully down they wont go down much lower than knee height :? We have a votex topper i wanted to put on it and the pins on that are almost on the floor! I have tryed a fergie plough on it and i cant even get it in the ground. Where as before it was all rebuilt it would plough with plenty of depth.

I had new 13.6 - 36 tyres fitted which may have lifted the tractor slightly but there was a 13.6-36 on there previously and i could plough deep enough...
I have also tryed turning the sqaure type cross shaft in different positions at the top but that seem to make little difference :?

When they are in the fully up position they seem to go pretty heighter than what i can rember its as if they are in the wrong place somewhere. id imagine its something of nothing but i cant see whats up!

Any help would be appreicated, i shall try and get some pictures up if the phone behaves
Many thanks dan

Away from the tractor but have just checked my drawings for the lift box I'm planning and have the lower link eye centres measured as 16" above ground level ('58 major) 13.6 x 36 on the LH side this was measured from - may help you compare if nothing else :scratchhead:

Pins where link rods attach to the lift arms in the rear most holes?

Hi Dan
As we can't see what your working with, and we only have your description, if none of the other suggestions work and the drop arms are screwed fairly well out. Are the link arms the right way round, as I don't think the 3 holes for mounting the drop arm and stabilizer chain are the same distance from both ball ends. so that could possibly alter the angle more :| , if the clip storage brackets/ chain are missing from the implement end, it can be hard to tell end for end at a glance when fitting them  :scratchhead: .

The top arms are also a matched pair it wouldn't by any chance be that during work on the tractor you have swapped the left and right arms side for side when putting it back together  . Then the position of the square locating splines are a few degrees out, causing the arm to maybe sit higher on the shaft than it should  . I found that out with an e27n arm when trying to match up a pair and got 2 left ones. it's quite the difference out of position.
Thats all i can think of today without going and messing with a tractor and seeing how i can replicate your problem .
