I've replaced the outer seal on the camshaft of the injector pump which stopped some of the diesel leaking but not completely.I started the tractor but On close examination it seems to be leaking from the injection pump governor inner case ? Is this possible ?I think as this FMD was laid up for 17yrs it seems that all the seals and gaskets has dried up.Is there a gasket / seal in the injector pump governor inner case ?. Looking forward to hear your views.

I think I'll have to give this injector pump to a professional to repair as nobody here has chipped in any tips or ideas on my question. It seems a no go area for the diy mechanic. As usual I'll keep ye updated on what happens next.

I brought my injector pump to the specialists and as usual with this tractor, the injector pump needs to be nearly totally rebuilt at a cost of €520.So that's just too much money so I'm currently on the look out for a replacement. Wish me luck lol

Ouch !
You see them on ebay but unless you find one your side of the Manx Ocean I guess thats a bit of a risk as you may end up with the same
Have you tried anyone who does service exchanges as if someone has quoted for repairs on a one off basis they may have looked at s/ex themselves then added a chunk - it annoys the hell out of me that the tractor comics are full of nice pictures showing very clean s/ex units for all sorts of tractors but they never give a price so I've no idea what the £ cost here would be, I'm just pleased mine continues to work, unlike the chain saw which ground to a smoking halt this afternoon while cutting up windblown trees as a favour for a friend - grrrrr
Better luck Paudie

Thanks lads ,well I've sourced a good replacement injector pump , but my first problem was that the two vacuum pipes didn't fit the new injector pump vacuum housing as the threads were narrower in my replacement .So I removed the vacuum pump diaphragm housing and attempted to switch it with my old pumps vacuum pump housing and would you believe it they looked identical the bolt holes matched up etc but I had to bring it to a mates machine shop to take .5 mm from the inside of the housing .SOOO!! I just put it back on the tractor and connected up all the pipes , bled it and up it started.I adjusted the pump timing slightly and seems to be running really well. I didn't take it for a spin but I'm sure it will be fine.but I can't help but wonder why would they alter the internal measurement by .5 mm ????????? Who knows this very very anal piece of fordson /Simms information.

You have the later type pump, it is after 1957, there was another change in 1960. Change was to improve governor reaction. You should be using smaller nuts as you have discovered.

Good man Brian you have some vast amount of knowledge. Maybe I should have just changed the larger vacuum pipe fittings to the smaller ones rather than skimming the housing down ?,Just to be clear brian my FMD is 1959 should it have the larger nuts or smaller ones on the vacuum pump diaphragm housing??
Thanks for the input lads

Yours should be the smaller ones.
