Wiring Harness Question

My Major don't have any lights on it.
I'm looking at the wiring diagram for the Diesel.
http://www.fordson.se/7_El_Verkstadsmanual_191-224.pdf
on page 33 of the above link.
Since I am replacing the Generator with an Alternator
Installing a new Key Switch, new Stater, changing the ground to a negative ground system, eliminating the old voltage regulator and solanoid...
Why can't I just eliminate some of the wires or wiring harness?
I'll be running new wire from the battery through the new amp guage to the Alternator
and new wire from the starter to the key switch to the battery.
So why keep the old wiring harness?
Does the Simms Fuel injector need power?
I don't see it on the wiring diagram.
What else needs power? I have no lights on the tractor.
Thanks for your help!
