Oil filter

So I'm lining up my first session of New Major maintenance over the Easter weekend. Going to start by patching up the cowl (which in my case also involves learning to weld), mounting some lights and flushing / replacing engine and transmission oil. Hydraulic oil seems clean enough (and the hydraulics do what I need them to), and I can pretty much buy a new tractor for the cost of flushing and replacing that, so I think I'll leave the back end for another day. 9 gallons of premium classic vehicle oil

I've removed the old oil filter, which seems to be the Super Major type:

length 4.5"
external diameter 2.75"
internal diameter 0.75"

... i.e. quite a bit shorter than the 6" filter than I was expecting to find.

Is this an indication that I've ended up with a Super Major filter housing? Or should I be able to squeeze the 6" filter in there? (I'm guessing not)

The filter housing changed about three times in the early days so it is possibly the filter that was fitted from new. You can pick up a filter fairly easily so do not attempt to fit the longer one. You could find how easy it is to remove the engine and crank.  :curse: :curse:
