gearbox oil - level

I was looking to clean out the oil of the gearbox tomorrow. I dismantled the pulley and found the oil level to be low. Where can I find the needed level mark, as there's no dipstick for the gearbox? What's the best way to have a good view on the gearbox?

should i fill it up to see if it's leaking to the back? I have the back empy now.

the level for gearbox is at the filler plug near clutch pedal and dipstick above clutch pedal for back end if this is any help

As I only drained 8L of oil, I was a little afraid the have damaged bearings:

As long as there is oil in, it will work usually. These boxes are farmer proof.

you are right, it looks like some rollers are missing in the bearing. I have the same with one of my Majors sitting in the barn for almost two years.

Is there any need for an urgent splitting right now? I don't want to have damage on the gears etc...
I've read some previous posts by Adrian concerning these bearings, where he suggests to split the tractor and replace them.

The lower seal of the PTO shaft is alright, as I took out the PTO axle without leaking anything. I have no idea on the upper seal, as the oil level was really low.

I'm afraid the cages of both bearings have broken up. You'll find the debris in the bottom of the gearbox.
The gearbox will have to be removed and dismantled.
It makes sense to replace both seals at the same time.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I have also been pondering on your broken rear axle casting. Your hydraulics will never work whilst the feed and return pipes are not held in position. If welding doesn't work, the only thought I have had so far is to find some way of creating a bracket out of steel and anchor it to the internal bull pinion housing, which has two tapped holes available on top of it.
Not sure if this would work.

Hi,

Looking to the photo's again I see I was wrong. Your bearings are defect and need to be replaced.

Please think about what to do. Replacing bearins means automatically replacing oil seals.

The best solution for your lift is to replace the rear axle casting. From a financial view it might be better to find a tractor with a broken engine and make an ASP.

I will try to do this job in August. I guess I need to split between rear-axle and gearbox?
Are these sealings easy to find on Agriline and others?
What are the prices for the bearings approximately?

The larger rear bearing is pretty expensiv, I think it was round about 150€ , but I am not sure.
Look for a replacement rea rend. In Belgium it should be no Problem to find them.
