I lost the login details for my YouTube channel a year or so back , so created a new one.
Just managed to winkle my way back in again to the old channel, so now I have two. Fantastic ..... not!
Wonder which one I'll upload to next time.
Anyone doing anything with their Majors this time of the year?

I got my super major stored in the shop and doing some work on the electrical systems had a order from agriline for 500$ cad for various parts and waiting for some more snow to fly its waiting to go with the snow blade and chains on we only had 2 days below -20celcius and about a foot of snow so far

It would be great to see some photos of you using the snow plough when the tractor comes out of the workshop.

I'm currently struggling with a leaking radiator. I'm also working on a new roof to put it under during winter.

I'm trying to stop my rear half shaft seal rotating with the wheel I've fitted two now and they're whizzing around, and leaking

Have you had the rad recored? After 50+ years, hard water deposits and filth will have built up in the tubes and fins, which you'll never successfully flush out.
Re your leak, given the above, it's not really worth trying to fix it.

I flushed the rad until it was clean water coming out. Then it did start to leak. Tried with a leak stop, but didn't work. I'm loooking to buy a new one, but the information is not so clear. The photo and drawing on sparex website is confusing

I had my original rad recored, which means you get to keep all the original brackets as well as the top and bottom tanks.
The link below shows my local rad repair shop. Do you have similar companies in Belgium?
If I remember rightly, the recoring cost £160.

if temperatures go down as in the weather forecast I have to move our flowerpots to my garage, because it's warmer there.
I could have done that with a car and a trailer, but the slow speed of the Major is better for the plants.

@mathias1: Rebuild your radiator, don't buy a new one. Quality will be way better when using the old head and tail. I bought a new one from A... a few years ago and had it fixed two times up to now. The frame of the new rad does not stand the fine vibrations at higher speeds.

I know. I got a kind of rant from my radiator specialist when repairing my new one. "Why didn't you bring your old radiator to me? This one is sh..., as you see."

The vertical sides of the new one broke off after a few month. The specialist fixed it but had no good word for the quality of the radiator. My new one came from turkey (regarding the names on the package). The material of the upper and lower box seems very thin compared to the older ones.

I dumped the old one, I'm still annoyed about that.

We have another one in our local tractor club:



and a few Dextas. There was a Fordson dealer in a city nearby, so there are some around. The red and green ones are a lot more however ...

Hi Adrian,

the trailer belongs to our city. It's for carnival or similar parades. I drive our mayor and his administration team.
It's nearly impossible to go backwards with this trailer. Without power steering you have to move while steering, and while moving the trailer moves too and most in the wrong direction. I think the geometry of tractor and trailer is bad in this combination. The distance between wheel axis and coupling axis is to small.

For my purposes I use a car trailer, I have a 50mm ball coupling on the major.

I get questions about the maker, Fordson is unkown and not directly associated with Ford. And there are questions about the model year. No one reads number plates ...

It must look great pulling the mayoral float. Those dignitaries know how to travel in style!
We use tractors over here too to pull carnival floats. First gear, low box. Perfect machine for the job.
Do you have to pay road tax? In the UK vehicles manufactured before 1st January 1976 are exempt.
I believe your road tax is shown on your number plate, isn't it? Or rather it was years ago, I think.
I've always wondered where the name Fordson came from, and why Ford felt the need to create it.

Yes, I have to pay taxes. There a two models in Germany: Historic vehicles (>30years and a certificate from our technical control (TÜV)) can pay 191 Euros (except motorcycles, they are cheaper) or you pay by emission class (cars up to 3,5t) or weight (trucks, tractors etc.).

I pay 236 Euros for 4 tons max. weight. If you are farmer (and have actually a running farm) you get a green numberplate and are tax free.
But if you do non-farming transports (e.g. furniture for a move) it is tax evasion.
I have no farm, so I pay per weight.

Insurance depends on purpose: If you do no work with your tractor and drive only to shows (and parades) you pay ca. 30 Euros. If you want to plough (even in matches) or do some work in a forest or any normal work, which the tractor did in his first life, you have to pay more.
If you are free of accidents for some years, you get a rebate (and loose it if you crash). Actually I pay 130 Euros (including three years of rebate) insurance, but I'm allowed to do normal work with my tractor.
It seems possible to get a state of historical cultural Shark to get tax free without beeing farmer, but it again limits the use of the tractor.

There is a round sticker on my number plate. It shows, that this vehicle is registered, paying taxes and insurance. If you don't pay one of them, authorities remove this sticker. You are not allowed to park on public ground (streets, parking lots etc.) without this sticker. Driving around without sticker is strictly forbidden.

Seems like we get off lightly over here.
Re road tax and insurance, until a couple of years ago we had to have a physical tax disc, but now they have gone digital, so if the police do a roadside check on you, they just have to enter the vehicle registration to see if you have road tax and insurance. Even though the road tax for our Majors is nil, you still have to go through the taxation procedure online each year, otherwise they fine you.
I pay about £35 per annum for insurance, third party. [Third party means that the insurance company pays for any damage done to others (the third party) but they don't pay for any damage to or loss of the tractor.]
Have you got any photos of your carnival parades? It would be lovely to see them.
