FPM identification

Post by OzRob »

Hi

Firstly, thanks for the wealth of knowledge generously shared on the forum. I used Brian's wiki on Henrietta's hydraulics to change the cylinder seal. Unlike Brian's experience, the supplier here in Australia was able to provide a seal off the shelf. I also made an adaptation to transfer oil from the hydraulics to the gearbox as required.

This tractor is badged Fordson Power Major and from the info on the forum I date it as 1960. Can anyone confirm this from the photo of the ID plate and tell me what each of the numbers on this plate mean?

There is no trace of any serial numbers on either of the two locations on the engine, but its casting code is E1ADKN6015 - E. Other casting codes I can read are
Gearbox D6D, Hydraulics (under seat) C22X, and two C30D.

It is gradually getting a long overdue cleanup.

Welcome to the board. We shall be at Deniliquin for the Ford 100 celebrations next year so if you get there, come and say hello!

The numbers on the plate are Australian ones and show she was assembled/prepared in Lidcombe or Homebush, NSW. The date is definitely 1960 and the casting codes agree with that except for the lift which is 1955. Possibly one that had been in stock for a long time or, more likely, one from an earlier tractor.

Thanks very much Brian. If I do get to Deniliquin for the celebrations I will certainly catch up with you.

Another question - after changing the cylinder seal and O ring the leak down of the hydraulics is much improved, but it still only takes about a minute for the arms to drop when I have the slasher attached. Is that typical - and are there any other things I should check next?

Cheers

Possibly the unload valve and seat under the plate with two studs in to the left in your first picture. With a lift dated 1955 you will have the early type valve which can leak and there is little you can do to stop it. You may find it best to replace the valve chest with one from a later tractor.
