PTO selector seal

Evening gents,

So one of the seals (one of the few didn't replace) I thought looked fine and reused has failed. So I need to replace the seal that the PTO selector plunger travels through. Is it just a case of dropping the oil, pulling the pin that holds the linkage to the plunger and then undoing the 4 little bolts and pulling the plunger and housing off the pto unit? Or is there things behind the selectors housing I need to be careful of. Thanks in advance.

Nothing you need to be careful of. I used 2 of 20mm x 38mm x 7mm metric seals with a dab of sealer.
Regards,
John.

Hi,

If I remember correctly, no need to drop the housing. Just drain oil, clean around the seal and pull the seal out. Replace with new, work clean, smear of sealant, wait, fill up oil and ready to go

Are you driving something through the old seal to pull it out? What kind of sealer do you use? Something like Hylomar blue or one that goes off solid?

I took the small selector rod housing off (4 x 3/8 bolts), removed the rod & levered the seal out. I used loctite liquid gasket. Watch the detent ball when you pull the rod out.
Cheers,
John.

Hi,

I usually drive a wood screw in the old oil seal to be able to use pliers to pull it out.
