Reason for oil leaking from oil bath of air cleaner?

Post by RH »

Gents,
My old FPM drips oil from the oil bath of the air claner.
Cleaned said filter and filled it to the correct level. Still drips out all over the tool box and such. Any ideas?

Old girl has been getting a beating just lately, brush -mowing thistles that should have been done ages ago. Still, she takes it like a champ...Still a grand slugging tractor.

Any help re. the leak most welcome.

Best regards,
Richard.

RH, encountered similar problems with majors when driving them for a living.
Can be difficult to get the rim of the bowl to mate up with the base of the cleaner. Sometimes better to move the fastening ring out of the way, drop it down a little, and the ensure that the bowl and cleaner body are properly aligned at the back. Then replace and tighten the fastening ring.

Another possibility is a small gap in the oil pan, mine was leaking a bit, even if it was parked away

Thanks for the replies, Fenhayman and Mathias,

I might just cut a rubber seal if I can't sort it otherwise. Mind, the tools don't rust in that oily toolbox!

Thanks again chaps,

Richard.
