Leaking front crank seal

Evening all.

Took the old girl for a spin today and noticed a leak at the front of the engine. On further inspection it looks to be coming from the front of the crank. I found it funny that there is still a point for a starter handle even though the radiator makes it pointless.

Anyway, my question is how hard is it to change a front crank seal on a 64 super major? Are the seals easy to get hold of?

Thanks in advance.

The leak is either coming from the crank seal or the timing gear cover gasket. The crank seal is located in the aperture in the timing gear cover. The seal mates with the hub of the fan belt pulley. The hub will probably have a groove where the seal lip runs. Simplest repair for this is to buy a Speedi-Sleeve. Works very well.
Best, Adrian.

Just done the job for te second time. Mind you there are two different sizes for the seal.

6362 S2 Engine Cranckshaft front 65,02 x 88,9 x 12,7 mm 2-9/16 x 3-1/12 x 1/2 9 inch 1954 1963 1 After engine no 1308977
6362 S1 or S2 Engine Cranckshaft front 61,91 x 88,9 x 12,7 mm 2-7/16 x 3-1/12 x 1/2 inch 1951 4-1956 1 Until engine no 1308977

The second time I have used the speedy Sleeve. No problem to get it on the pouly, but I think it damaged the seal when the pouly was replaced. So now it still leaks.
