crank rod bearing clearance

Post by markr1001 »

I am about to be reinstalling my pistons and my father in law sujests i check the rod bearing clearances first. So im going to get some plasti guage. But i cant seem to find the spec on what its supposed to be? Does anyone know? I havent received my manual in the mail yet so i cant check there and i cant seem to find it in the manual sections i have down loaded

Its a 1957 major with the 1.375 pins and 1 oring sleeve design if that matter?

From the I & T manual:

Con-rod bearings: desired clearance 0.002-0.0035; max allowable clearance 0.005. Crank should be reground if taper exceeds 0.001 or out-of-round 0.0015.

Main bearings: desired clearance 0.0025-0.004.

It doesn't say, but it's an American-published book so I guess the units are inches :D
