Hi,
My Fordson Major Diesel has been having a lot a problems with the new brakes not functioning properly. First it won't stop and now it won't go. It's as if there's no compression but there's no decompression lever on it so I can't look there. Has anyone got any idea why some were fitted and on others not?

Dukeyfox,
If you have an early model, before about 1954, there's no decompression lever at the front of the engine above number 1 cilinder, but a small lever (U shape upside down) on the pump side at number 4 cilinder.
Around 1954 the lever was deleted for a while and was an option at that time located at the front of the engine.
Could also been a removed one. So than it must be showing a hole in the rocker cover at the front.

My Super 4 from 1962 came with the decompression lever as an option, since that's the info I recently got from the County register. I just can't see what this has to do with the brakes

That's one weird question:
My Fordson Major Diesel has been having a lot a problems with the new brakes not functioning properly.
-please explain what is not working with your brakes...
First it won't stop and now it won't go.
-??
It's as if there's no compression but there's no decompression lever on it so I can't look there.
-what does this have to do with braking?
Has anyone got any idea why some were fitted and on others not?

Its all in the translation gents, two separate problems, the brakes (discussed on another thread, it will not stop rolling) and now the engine will not go !
The English language seems to have evolved mainly to confuse those who have to translate it to their native language
