Widen fordson super major

Evening all,

I recently got a new super major (1961).
I usually run international Farmalls that when you want to widen it to it
a specific width of tramline you just slide the front axle out and extend
the necessary components much like the front of the fordson. HOWEVER my
problem is..... with the Farmall you just swap the rear wheels over to match
the front wheels as the dish of the rear wheels makes it wider. Can this be done
with the fordson or do I need to buy new wheels/rims to get the width ??

Assuming you have the standard wheels (AUS & USA may import the skid and use local wheelsets) depending on which way round you mount the hub on the axle and the rim lugs onto the hub, you can achieve a variety of rear wheel offsets between 52" to 72" (Operators handbook), maybe not as quick as sliding on splines like the Farmall but assuming this covers your spacing needs, no different bits to buy

depends on the rims. On my Super the 30" rims are fixed.

Do you get two different spacings depending which way you fit them on the axle Peter ?

did not try it yet, because the width was ok for me how they were fitted as I got the tractor and I never had the idea of mounting them the other way round.

As you can see there is a ring welded in the rim, which is not genuine. I think one of the former owners had the need to fix a second wheel there. So for me it was clear, that this ring is "outside".
And second reason against another width with this tractor is that the old steering arms did not match the new kingpins. Without modification of the linkage between the steering arms the wheel had a big toe out. I corrected that with another cut in the linkage.
So I'm fixed to this track.

I've had the same trouble with the king pins. I've salved with bending the rocker arm on one side.
There are some differences between supliers of parts and this is one of them.

That explains the odd flange Peter and probably makes it unrealistic to reverse the hubs now - let's hope biovet's are 'standard' configuration and can match the track size he needs.

Yes they are the usual UK pattern where the centre can be attached to the hub two ways round, the rims can be fitted 2, ways plus there's an inch or two more flexibility with the rim lugs being attached outside or inside the centres. Downside is you might have to swap tyres if it works out the treads are 'backwards' for the new configuration.

The scallops in the centres are so that you can switch rim setting without taking the whole wheel off, the lugs clear the centre, unlike the earlier versions (and E27N although they have 2 more lugs than these) where the centre is a disk.

I've never seen a diagram showing the various dimensions anywhere, but I may have led a sheltered life !

your rear wheels are as standard as can be.
It's up to you to choose the track with you want. These are the possibilities:

Rick, it's in the repair manual. Might also be in the usersmanual too.

Thanks mathius, must have forgotten it if in the ops manual, not read the repair manual cover to cover - that's my excuse for lousy memory and I'm sticking to it
