Has anyone changed over the cartridge type engine oil filter to spin on type on a FPM diesel or know if a spin on conversion is available? I can't seem to find any. I know it's a tight squeeze between engine and frame but I figure if they can fit a cartridge in a container there a spin on could fit. I've been thinking about making an adapter to do this with maybe a WIX 51460 filter. All I need to know is where oil flows out and flows in. Let me know if anyone has tried this.

Hi,

You might try the conversion which is available for a Dexta. But why would you ocnvert? Your tractor is at least almost 60 years old. Why replace an item which works for an item which doesn't work better?

I'm sure that you could put a remote mounted filter somewhere. Like Emiel, I'm wondering why you need to do that. Filter cartridges are readily available online. They are even in stock at my local auto parts stores.

What WIX number do you guys use for a FPM diesel oil filter? I need to know exactly the correct filter cartridge and washers and spring assy. in correct order.

Dave,
There are 2 type of oil filters used
found this numbers:
Napa 1188 (115mm) and 1193 (135mm) are the engine oil filters.

Baldwin equivalents are PT108-HD and PT29 respectively.

I have a really early petrol major (1952) with AC oil filter. I was expecting a 135 mm cartridge when I pulled the housing off, but found a 115 mm one.

This is the spring and 'washer'...

Has it been modified to take newer (115 mm) cartridge?
... or should I squash the spring down hard and fit a 135 mm cartridge in?

It should take the long element, the washer should have the seal facing the element and a felt between it and the spring to seal the hole for the bolt (turn it round).
