Even when 60 years old the pumps can still be quite reliable so the same problem with two separate pumps might indicate you have a problem elsewhere Elias, search here in the New Major pages as there are lots of discussions on things like leaking O rings and non return or pressure relief valve defects which may be causing your problem. plus ideas for testing the existing pumps (or you could take them to a local hydraulic repairer for test)

If this doesn't help an idea of what part of the world you are in might help someone recommend a reasonably close supplier for a new one.
Best regards

I think there may be a few forum members in your part of the world Elias who might help with local knowledge on possible suppliers but it is not a complex pump or system so if you find yourself out of your depth any decent hydraulic mechanic ought to be able to help, the info on here of past battles gives you a better than average chance of locating and fixing it yourself.
Best regards

Hi Billy,
First observation, have you engaged the PTO? Fordson major hydraulics require the PTO to be engaged
Image
flat lever next to starter lever.
You might well find your filter under the hydraulic pump could be blocked from lack of cleaning, drain rear end oil (10 gallons) and remove the round plate together with the filter.
Image
The two bolts immediately in front of this plate are magnetic filters and should be cleaned as well.
If this doesn't solve it you'll probably be removing the top cover; a common problem is the unloading valve sticking (sorry but I don't have a pic of it).
with the top cover off but oil in the rear end, try turning the PTO by hand (don't run the engine for this and disengage the PTO), if you see oil coming out of the feed pipe (front one) the problem is in the top cover, and if it doesn't, the problem is in the rear axle housing, either the pump or the drive gear on the PTO shaft.
Hope this helps a wee bit.
Sandy

The PTO is engaged.
I drain fluid. pretty dirty for being run for maybe 30 hours.
The screen is very dirty & appeared to have been pushed up in place (by prior owner) as the screen was collapsed upward, & now damaged from me trying to get it out....so, I'll be shopping for a filter & gaskets.
really need to locate a dependable parts distributor.
Ever heard of Fordson House in Michigan?

Billy,
maybe you can repair the screen by pressing it from the inside with a bend bar or something. I haven't seen these filters for sale as a new part, so you will need to find a used one. Ebay.co.uk has a lot of used parts for sale, the only problem might be the shipping.

I am going to search Ebay.UK.com.
Are the Hyd pumps interchangeable w/other majors?
How difficult is it to get a rebuild kit for this pump? What wears out besides seals.
Any distributor you would recommend?
thanks.

Hi

The Super Major pump is different to the Major and Power Major, and if yours is New Performance it is different on the number of teeth on the drive gear to the earlier Super Major.

I have never come across anyone supplying spurious replacement pumps and in fact not even seal kits. Your best bet is a good used one from a dismantled tractor, or a good engineering shop that specialises in hydraulic pumps that may be able to machine it up.

There is a supposed new old stock pump on eBay at the moment but it is for a Major or Power Major.

I can't find a pump anymore, Agriline used to sell the Super hydraulic pump, but they appear to have stopped doing so. Get a used pump and try it, there's a good chance something will be better in the replacement one.
While it's off, inspect the drive gear on the PTO, you might well find its key is sheared, again no new one available.

Hope the replacement pump does the trick.
To replace the hydraulic pump you'll need to drain the rear axle oil (10 gal) and lift the top cover. Be very careful to lift the top cover evenly for the first inch to avoid cracking the feed pipe bracket. Then simply remove the hydraulic pump from the pedestal and refit everything, remembering the delicate feed pipe bracket (part of the rear axle casting).
If this doesn't do it remove the PTO shaft, draining the gearbox and rear axle (14.5 gal total) and check the key in the hydraulic pump drive gear. A sheared key could well be the problem. If neither of these do it, then the problem will be in the top cover. Keys are not available new.

After buying a pump on Ebay UK, My mechanic pulled the pump & inspected it. He thought it was in GREAT shape. After replacing O-rings it appears to work well. He took the pump that I bought to inspect & maybe re-ring it, so I may have one to sell.

Now I need a drain plug cover(Part# EIADKN-994686) as mine is cracked in half. brazing repair still leaks & epoxy will be the next attempt until I locate a new one. Much appreciation to all the helpers @ this forum!

No new ones available, so you'll need to find a second hand one and clean it well.
I replied that in the hydraulic pump o-ring thread.
