Identify engine

Post by Virex »

Hello to all and thanks for having me :) I'm currently slowly restoring a major that belonged to my late father, i'm not sure of the year but think it's late 50's and it's in rough shape to be honest. At some point the 4D engine was swapped out for a 2701e industrial engine but after 18 years parked up with no cover over the exhaust pipe it's very corroded and seized up. I've found and bought an engine from ebay that looks like it, 4 cylinder 2700 series but not sure what version it is. Seen many engines from cargos, industrial welders etc but not one like this and I cant identify the injection pump either. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance :)

Hello,

welcome here!
to me it looks to be a Dorset engine (2700 series). The inlet on the injectors looks like my 2714 engine and it also has the injection pump directly driven on the front. Maybe you can find some numbers on the engine? It will be a bit of a project, since you will have to get the sump fixed to fit the A-frame of the front axle, or maybe you can swap the sump with the old engine. I have no idea if it would be a straight fit.

Hello and thanks for replying :) Yes i'm going to have to change a few things and fabricate some others for sure, i'm sort of lucky in that I can use the sump I already have and the the frame has been modified in the past to suit the steering arrangement.
I'll make it work somehow, it's going to be a long term project I reckon.
I'm very new to the tractor world to be honest and some of the more basic things are almost alien to me after having spent years working on modern cars etc.
I'm really the most curious about the injection pump, not seen a pic of another one like it.
