Part#EIADKN-994686 (#27 in exploded view) page 38 of parts catalog (probably after market)
Mine is broken in two & braze is leaking. I'm going to attempt to coat inside w/epoxy until I find one.
Thanks for any info on a parts supplier. Russ

Billy,

you will have to find a good used one.
I had one here that had a crack and also did replace it.
They are not available as aftermarket part.
there's one here, but i'm not sure they will ship to the USA:

Thanks. I emailed to see if that was for a SM. It looks flatter than mine.

Thanks. I emailed to see if it would fit a Super Major. It looks flatter than mine.
Would you know which Majors would interchange that part?

Hi Russ,

According to your pictures on FB it is an super major you have, not an NP one. But it’s a very nice one. Enjoy it.

Thanks Emiel. I have 6 tractors & "Babe" is my favorite. I've had it for 15-16 years & it has been a great piece of equipment. Russ

Emiel, I am researching the difference from the SM to the NP SM. Can you tell me the difference?

The NP Super Major has new hydraulics that work qualitrol in tension as well as compression, a drop control valve, a new crown wheel and pinion that is slower (4.375 versus 3.5), new gear ratios, PTO std speed at 1500rpm, with std or raised PTO, a larger PTO shaft, pressed 6.00-19 front wheel centres and a new cylinder head with greater swirl in the intake ports. The livery was NP blue and NP off white. (Not the Ford world series colours)
As for your plate, any Major will be fine.

Thanks Sandy! That should make it easier to locate. Is there a name for it other than "drain plug cover"?

The parts book says it's a pump pedestal cover.

With regard to the differences between the early and NP Super Majors - for details of the PTO and gearbox and final drive changes on the NP model read "PTO gearbox seals" originally posted by mathias 1 on 13 April 2020. In the hydraulics the draft sensing spring was altered so as to be able to process top link compression and extension signals, a drop control restrictor valve was incorporated, and the hydraulic pressure relief valve was changed from a 2 stage type to a conventional single stage type that did not require the hydraulic control lever to be placed in the drop position in order to re-set the valve after discharge. This later single stage valve can be fitted to early Super Majors, in fact it is the only type now supplied by the spurious parts suppliers.

The engine was identical to the immediately preceeding blue/orange Super Major with the minimec pump which was fitted from April 1962 onwards. There is a myth about the so called "FL" marked head, this is just a foundry marking as casting of the heads was transferred from Dagenham to another foundry. Six cylinder head casting was transferred during 1962 and by early 1963 four cylinder head casting had been transferred also, these heads cast at the new foundry had the "FL" mark, late production blue/orange Super Majors had heads with this marking and in fact there is one for sale on Facebook at the moment. The last substantive change to the cylinder heads was in September 1961 when the machining of the head was changed to allow the fitting of stronger larger diameter valve springs to reduce valve bounce.

I have corresponded with the men who were actually casting these heads with the "FL" marking at the new foundry, there is no stronger evidence than that! The letters stand for.........?? Not going to tell you at the moment, but all will be revealed in due course!

Hi,

The differences between the sm and npsm have been unveiled very clear. For as far as I know the sm can on cast iron front wheels as standard. The blue grey ones with the pressed steel type.

FL stood for Ford Leamington I was told. Engine wise the engine max governed speed was increased by 100rpm on the new performance super major.
