Super Major, help identifying hydraulic remote control valve

Post by Royjones »

Hello,
I've been using my Fordson Super Major for 20 years.
I inherited it 10 years ago when my father passed away, and I continue to do the same work he did.
Hopefully with a bit more understanding.

I'm wanting to properly replace the seals on this hydraulic remote control valve, but I'm having problems finding information on it.

Could someone please help me with identifying it so I can find all the correct seals. It has a constant weeping that I'd like to stop.

Thankyou, Roy.

You seem to have a very early top cover (25 Nov 1960). The DAR valve is an Australian one, I don't know if it's very similar to the Ford one or not.
Where is the leak? You might find something is loose, try getting everything reasonably tight before you dismantle anything, testing to see if that sorts it.

Thanks for the response,
At least now I know its a Double Acting Ram valve.
I'm certain it is leaking from an oring in the top selection shaft.
When we rebuilt it 15 years ago all we had was what you get in the as568 oring kits. needless to say they were not the correct sizes.
I will try giving it a clean up and tightening everything down again.

Roy.

Your DAR valve is not the Ford one, it's an Australian made equivalent. Don't overdo it with the tightening, if it doesn't seem to improve then you'll need a new o-ring.

There's no exploded diagram of your valve though.

Thanks, I was just searching for it myself.

I'll have a good look though it.

From that thread, it appears that my valve was also used on the 5000 but with a relocated lever.
