A year and a half ago, I was sent photos from someone from another part of the province of a strange New Major. His name is Kees. The owner of the Major, Mark, someone from Belgium, had told him that the tractor was built in 1949. Normally this wouldn't be possible, he thought. The question was therefore whether I wanted to go and have a look with him to solve this mystery. Always nice of course. Unfortunately, Mr. 19 flew over to Europe and we were no longer allowed to cross the border to Belgium.
Last week we finally had the opportunity to look at the tractor.

Kees is a hobby photographer specializing in agriculture and I know him because he also takes a lot of pictures of our old-timer club. It was in that capacity that he had visited the owner for the first time. His photos can be seen at https://www.agrifoto.nl/nieuws/log/10362 . A fellow townsman of mine, Ko, also went along. Mark has been a trader in horticultural machines during his working life. His collection consists mainly of machines that he has traded in and found during that time. In addition, there is still a lot of things from a bygone era. Also a Lanz and a Ferguson 135.

Arriving at Mark, the garage door opened and the front of a New Major faced us. The tractor was standing in between all kinds of stuff, but with some climbing we were able to look around and find the casting codes and other numbers. Meanwhile, Mark said he bought the tractor because the previous owner told him that it was a special one, as it had been delivered from the factory with the back of an E27N in 1949.
I had books with me containing the casting codes and engine numbers of different series Fordson. Unfortunately there was no engine number, but there were casting codes.

The engine had C?T, so March 1952. The wide fan belt was clearly visible and the air filter is also of the early type. It is a TVO engine, starting on Petrol of course.
The gearbox has code C28T and is therefore also from March 28, 1952. The square bottom of the PTO housing is clearly visible.
The back-end has code L27N and is therefore September 27, 1949. Clearly an E27N part.
The special thing is that the clutch and brake pedals are reversed. The throttle lever also had to be adapted because the brake pedal and the normal shaped lever cross each other. The rest, of the entire back-end is complete E27N, including the trumpet shafts. No lifting device is mounted.
We could not find a code on the front axle, but this is clearly an E27N axle.

Our conclusion is that after the introduction of the New Major, Ford supplied a number of ASP (all spare parts) Major from the factory with remnant parts of the E27N.

After this we drove to Kees his workshop. He owned a contracting company that mainly was specialized in sugar beet cultivation. He was involved in the development of the first six rows beet harvesters. After his retirement he first restored the first beet harvester of the company Verveat from Biervliet, then an Eicher tool carrier with a built-up Stoll beet harvester. And now he was refurbishing a trailed Stoll C45 beet harvester. The last two machines will be used in old-timer beet harvesting demonstrations. In between he also does some construction work for the company Verveat for new Beet Eater harvesters.

Was a very nice Saturday

Sorry, but could not get the pictures direct in this post.
Kind regards, Henk

What an odd E27N and E1ADKN mix, could it be a prototype perhaps? Looks in good condition, hope the casting codes and serial number are coming soon!

Haha. Nice machine. Curious for its story.
