One starter motor used by Ebro

Many Ebro engines have this kind of starter, it's quite different and at the same time quite similar to the Lucas one used by Ford. It was fitted to Super Billy, but our half Super Major had a Lucas one, so this one will be left off for now. Apologies for the poor pics, I'll post better ones tomorrow.

It's made by Hurricane, Barcelona; a company I had never known until I wire brushed the end of the starter.
Image
It looks a bit like the solenoid fitted Lucas starter used on Thames Trader's, but it fits Major's fine.

The rubber boot is completely different, as is the switch and bracket; this boot is a combination of two that are falling to pieces, hence the insulating tape (we'll need to find a good original one, as overhauled Ebro's receive the Lucas repro instead of the right one)

Here are the better pics, although they're still not great.

Hi,

It certainly has different looks then the Lucas one. I think the end cover is easyer to work with then the Lucas one with or without the brush cover band.

How do the internals compare?

We haven't dismantled it yet, but as it worked I'm a bit apprehensive about dismantling it just for fun. I might just take the cover off for a pic and that's it. The drive end is not that different (the rubber boot it has is a combination of two, and they're falling to bits, so I have seen in there). I haven't seen a Lucas one without a brush cover (unlike the dynamo).

Here are some pics of the front with the cover off, you can see it's pretty similar to the Lucas one.

and inside it.

Unfortunately no, the dynamo on Ebro's is also made by them.

Every time i tried to find anything i kept ending up with Ebro taking over manufacturing the Willys jeep and using a 6 cylinder super hurricane engine

Here's a pic I just found of the dynamo. Our dynamo's plates are very worn and unreadable.
