I'm thinking about fitting one of these 4 cylinder industrial engines in a 1959 power Major. Has anyone here done it and what were the pros and cons?
Will the sump from a normal tractor engine fit the D series engine, will this solve the front axle problem associated with fitting a 6 cylinder D series engine in a Major?

As far as I am aware, the bell housing of the D series truck 220 engine will fit the Fordson Major gearbox housing, you will need a sump off the vertically mounted industrial version of the engine as the D series engine was inclined mounting with a specially shaped sump, the sump off the 592E Major engine will not fit due to the oil pump drive on the D series engine, and if you do find an industrial sump you will still have to fabricate a means of attaching the front axle tie bar.

A lot of improvising, better to find a decent 592E engine out of a tractor or combine or compressor or similar.
