Ready for first start since overhaul.

Post by Jparks1 »

I will be cranking freshly rebuilt Super Major for first time since major rebuild, tomorrow morning. Plan is to start her up, bring up to temp and retorque head and reset valves. My question is when I retorque head bolts do I follow order of bolt number 1 thru 17, or backwards bolt 17-thru 1.

Always tighten from the inside out, as the Ford manual has both sequences, start with the no. 1 bolt next to the centre rocker shaft pedestal on the manifold side and follow on to the camshaft side of the centre pedestal. If you have the loosening diagram (which is rarer than the tightening one) then do the opposite order to what you see on that diagram.
