Just getting to end of a rebuild and found a small rubber seal in the gasket kit that I can’t find a spot for. It is only about 10mm round. The only spot I can think of is possibly under the main rocker assembly post for the valve gear I can’t recall if there should have been some sort of seal under the centre post where the oil feed comes in for the rocker gear from the head. I have it all back together now, all the valve clearances set and don’t want to have a look under it if I don’t have to. Can anyone tell me is this is where this seal goes??

Re: Rocker post seal??
Some head gasket sets had both a full set of eight mushroom type seals for the inlet and exhaust valves and also a set of four small "O" type seals I think it was for the inlet valves, the early engines just had these four "O" type seals on the inlet valves and nothing on the exhaust valves. A modification was soon introduced to fit the mushroom type seals to all valves and discard the round seals as it was found that oil was finding it's way down between the exhaust valve stem and the guide particularly when the engine was cold and being blown out of the exhaust. It could be that this seal is one of the early type seals that had been packed in your gasket set, packing both types of seal gave the option of using the earlier setup or the modified setup.

I think it's the seal for the exhauster oil feed, normally it gets ignored but for some reason you always find it in engine kits.

That’s good news.
In these gasket sets sometimes more types of close related engines are covered. You might find this Particular seal you don’t need.

Re: Rocker post seal??
Just so I’m clear, I’m not missing anything under the face on the rocker post, it should just be metal to metal for the oil feed for the rocker’s??, thanks in advance. My engine had the mushroom caps that ride up and down with the valve stems, plus there was only one of these seals in the kit?? Loving this old tractor, can’t wait to get going

Re: Rocker post seal??
Nothing under the rocker posts, it may be a seal for the brake exhauster on an engine for vehicle applications as Sandy says or it may be a stray early type inlet valve seal that has crept into the gasket set when it was packed.
