FMD oil cap

Post by leeroy »

Is the oil filler cap on a 1955 FMD the same as its radiator cap? I'm only finding radiator caps for sale.
I unknowingly ran the tractor without cap, and cannot find it.
Probably ran it for 1-2 hrs "topping". Although it was not dusty I am concerned. Any steps to take aside of replacing, and double checking cap is on after adding oil!?&@$£#% :stress: :stress:

The oil cap is very similar, but has a sort of red paper-like seal and is stamped ENGINE OIL FILLER.

This is Davie's one (original one), Billy and Super Billy have replacement ones. You can use a radiator non pressure cap in the meantime, but the rubber will not last in contact with oil.

Any reason I should not use an improvised cap if it seals tight until replacement arrives?

I would prefer to use something that can fit nicely and easily (preferably locking on the same way), and you definitely want a good seal.
