55 FMD Fuel shutoff cable

Post by leeroy »

For the last few years I've had an extra long cable that I just left a big loop in. Finally decided to cut out the extra, but now I'm questioning the best procedure so it shuts off but still allows enough to use the cold start. Do I start with the knob pushed in and the lever in the clod start?

Yeah knob in and the lever as far as possible sounds right to me

The correct setting has 1/4" free play at the knob with excess fuel.

Thanks guys, think I've got it correct.
The cold start/extra fuel only works if that button is pushed in, correct?
In other words, if I push the fuel stop in all the way that arm is not completely vertical,it's leaning forward just a bit.
If I move the lever to vertical the knob is sticking out that 1/4" Sandy mentioned.

I think you need just a bit more cable, to ensure you get maximum fuel with the button pushed in, the stop lever should always be in this position when running:

When you press the button the stop lever should be under spring pressure for its full travel, with the button popping out when nearly vertical (a bit further than vertical when pulling the control). If the button doesn't pop out it's likely that the pump will need an overhaul.

Thanks for the explanation and pictures Sandy, I'm revisit this again today.
The button does work, travels forward when pressed in and pops out on start up or by manually pulling stop control.
