Bearings for primary transmission

Hello Gents:

I am looking for information on the specs for the roller bearings used in the primary transmission. Due to rusting, I am replacing all of the transmission bearings in my 1952 FM (petrol) and am having trouble finding bearings to replace the smaller roller bearings in the primary transmission. Does any have a replacement equivalent for these?

Regards,

Bob

Can you find anything stamped on those bearings? It should have some part no. on there, but not a Ford one.

HI Sandy:

I have taken them to a bearing supply shop and they are looking for equivalent bearings, so I don't have them with me to get the numbers. What I am hearing from them is that the numbers are not helping them....

Cheers,

Bob

If they are Imperial size standard bearings, which they should be, the numbers etched on the inner and outer races should identify them. If not, bearing factors should be able to measure them with a micrometer and locate equivalent bearings. If it is a small local business you are dealing with you might do better searching online, many Imperial size bearings are still available but you have to dig them out. Look at Histoparts Holland website.

Hi,

May be a ring to Cotswold vintage tractors is an idea. They offer fordson bearings on their website.

Do not have any personal experience with them.

Just had a look at both, I'm not sure they've got all the bearings but they certainly seem to have some. They've got other things I'm eying up for fixing here (such as a check valve for Davie).

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I am using a different parts diagram, but the part numbers and bearing description I am looking for are:

R&M MRJA25 25X62X17mm Diagram Ref #9 Part Number - N 7118 D Qty = 2
3DC/V 25X?X17 Diagram Ref#68 Part Number - E1ADKN-7118-A Qty = 1

These are straight roller bearings with a single lip on the outer race.

I am trying to figure out how to attach the parts diagram image like Mathias did?

Thanks

I think I'm using the same parts book as you (the 52-57 one in the FFCN) and as far as I can tell there are 3 N-7118D and 1 E1ADKN-7118A. Are you sure the measurements are actually metric? If so N-7118D is modern code N 305, as for E1ADKN-7118A I can't find it without the OD so see what you can find. The code on your N-7118D matches the sizes of the modern one, but I can't find anything for E1ADKN-7118A.

Hi Sandy:

I found the N305 bearing but it differs from the original in that the outer race is double lipped and holds the rollers and cage, and the inner race is single lipped. The original bearing MRJA25 is single lipped on the outer race so that the outer race can be pressed into place and the rollers go into it during assembly and the thrust portion of the outer lip captures the rollers as the parts are assembled. This would not be possible with the N305 bearing. I have found a place in the UK which claims to have the R&M MRJA25 bearing, but not the larger one, the 7118A...

The bearing supplier is https://www.qualitybearingsonline.com/ and they seem to have most but not all the bearings I am looking for, but not cheap, these bearings are about $200 each! You are correct, there are three of the N-7118D (R&M MRJA25) bearings.

I thought the outer race on the N 305 had no lips, the one with no lips on the inner race is NU 305. I looked at the page, it's got a pretty good selection including plenty of inperial bearings but strangely none in the cylindrical roller bearing category. As you say pretty pricey, but handy when you can't find it anywhere else. I think R&M are the company that made the bearing (still going), the bearing code is MRJA 25 or NF 305 as I found in your bearing page. I just looked for E1ADKN-7118A and found it might be NF 405, but measure the bearing first as it might well not be that size.
