The FE35 that replaced the Ferguson 20 in 1956 has a much more sophisticated 2 lever hydraulic system that is easier to use than the TE20 for external services such as loaders and tipping trailers, you don't need stay bars for them.

The Major linkage doesn’t need bracing like the grey Fergy. On the Major, the hydraulic lever controls the oil flow directly.
On the Fergy, once the linkage is fully raised, flow stops.

In use as above, physically holding the linkage in the raised position will speed up implement lift cycles.

That was the idea behind the suggestion, to dispense with the need for the links to rise to the top before oil became available at pressure for an external use, fit heavy stay bars and kill two birds with one stone! The Major links rise to the top and then the relief valve blows if the lift lever is held in raise, the Ferguson idea prevents unnecessary discharge of the relief valve.
