So I have an opportunity to purchase a Major that is local to me.

What information can you provide based on the photos?

Sorry for the screenshots...

Thanks!

It appears to be a petrol engined version, but you probably know that already. A fairly early model too.
Remarkably good tinwork compared to anything that age here.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes I am aware that is the gas model, as I have a 1952 gas Major already.

This one is somewhere between 1954 and 19...60?, however, without the serial # I am unable to narrow it down any further myself (hopefully getting the serial # soon).

Obviously the exhaust is very wrong, not something I care too much about.

I can see the the ACR mechanism is much more complete than the one that I currently have...it even looks like it might be the correct top link for the ACR?

It also has the drawbar/hitch that mine does not.

At least one tire is cracking, however, all 4 seem to have decent tread...from what I can see anyway, as well as the newer style front hubs.

Newer style handbrake lever than my '52 as well.

Current owner says it "fires up but won't stay running".

Just wondering if anyone sees anything I don't or has any insights or opinions to offer.

My first impression is a very big go for it. I's a late 52 or early 53, can't see well enough to say more. ACR is complete although the top link is the wrong way round. The 7.50-16 wheels are better for loader use, the rear wheels look to be 11-38, very rare on early tractors. Drawbar is totally original, as fitted until early 53. Exhaust is as you say wrong, but shouldn't be an issue. Not just the brake latch but also the mudguards are the second design (no change in part no. throughout this early period). I would suggest checking the fuel system, for it sounds very much like lack of fuel. This one has the correct manifolds.

As Plato said, thousands of years ago "He who hesitates is lost"
Hopefully another one will soon turn up.
