Please don't ! No Major deservs to go through the final years of its life with a Ferguson based engine!

Seriously though, the 6354 was a very good engine but you would need an adaptor plate to fit it to the Major clutch housing. Such plates were made in the early days when the TVO engines were removed and Perkins L4 engines fitted.

It would be a nice interesting engineering job.

Hello,

Some people have comparable ideas.

I may be going to upset some people now! I would rather have a 6354 any day than a Merc.!

I drove the same model of combines with both and felt that the Merc engine were overated. I also had a Merc 5 cylinder in a car and it was one of the worst engines I have ever come across.

The idea about the flywheel is interesting. Roadless fitted a similar idea to some of their tractors. It looked like a cotton reel that thread for sewing comes on and was very heavy.
