Hi
F in L's early Super has just severed the left wheel. Any pointers as to removal of said shaft would be appreciated. Is then anything to be careful with when removing the top cover (and replacing).

No problems on getting the top cover off. Don't forget the two nuts, one either side, up under the lift arms. Just do not set it down on the control valve with the metal trumpet on. When off, its best to stand it on the lift arms/top link to avoid any chance of damage.
Crane would be best if possible. I have a ring that bolts on to the seat bolts from my service days.
Once you are in, its just a large castellated nut and you will need to lift the "strakes" out of the groove where the seal fits. The shaft should draw straight out then.
Must be the year for half shaft failure! I had one go on Harriet whilst I was loading muck a few days ago.

Thanks for the reply Brian. He has borrowed a w/s manual for the new major but I just wondered if there is any thing peculiar to the Super. Also can he use a shaft from any model of Major?

Things might be a slightly different shape and the hydraulics is totally different but otherwise it is the same. Halfshaft is the same for all Majors.
