Hi all,
I’m just looking to clarify my understanding on this.
The “New Performance Super Dexta” Was introduced in June 1963 until 1964.
I would be correct in saying all 64 super Dexta’s are New performance models?
Ways to ID such model. Call this a rough ID if you will.
(Excluding paint, Panel styles and instruments for now)
The fuel pump should be 4696 Minimec, upgraded from the 4588.
Has anyone another method to ID a 4696 to a 4588 pumps, They look completely identical to me on the external? The Serial tag can be missing or very hard to make out at times.
The engine number should also begin with a 160 xxx xx ?
I’ve attended a few vintage shows recently and some stuff isn’t adding up to me from what I have seen.
All feedback appreciated.
New Performance Super Dexta.
Re: New Performance Super Dexta.
Serial numbers will help, but as Dexta and Super Dexta ran in the same series it's not that easy to tell. The injector pump and injectors are the main difference, but not visible externally, some special strip was glued in the gap between the radiator and the cowling to concentrate the air flow and help with cooling. All 64 Super Dexta's were NP, but the NP Dexta was also produced alongside them. They're quite rare, and are no different to previous Dexta's other than styling. Sales literature suggests the new pressure relief type valve was a NP feature but these actually appeared a month or two before. The last Super Dexta engine number was 1664496, the last Dexta was 1553322.

Re: New Performance Super Dexta.
Very interesting, So a New Performance Dexta (Non super) is something well worth keeping an eye out for?
The Dexta’s look to be a very interesting production line.
I did notice one Super Dexta listed as a 1964 at a show, but it had a 4588 pump. I was unable to make out the engine number.
Anyone recommendations on books about Dexta’s and Majors? I was looking at Fordson Dexta by Allen T.Connie.
Thanks for the feedback Sandy.

Re: New Performance Super Dexta.
The Allan T Condie books are great, as are all the Ford publications. NP Dexta's are worth it if you want something rare, back in the day everyone got Super Dexta's for they have a lot more power. This Super Dexta could have had several things togive this combination, pitty you could't get more.
The Major's are even more fun, you'll see that when you go through the details.
