You need to connect the wires by colour code to each terminal. The BATT terminal has a yellow-red wire (to regulator A1 terminal), the COIL terminal has a red wire (to starter switch) and a brown wire (to heater button), the SIDE & TAIL terminal has a black wire (to side/rear lights) and a yellow-red wire (to tachometer backlight), the DIM terminal has a black-red wire (to dipped headlight filament) and the HEAD terminal has a black-green wire (to full headlight filament). The warning lights are powered by a black-blue wire connected to the brown wire at the heater button. In your tests with the engine running the lights shouldn't come on as you have it. All of what I said up to now is valid until 957E-58225, when the regulator was changed (RB108 37396 instead of RB106/2 37206), the BATT terminal became two thick yellow wires (to regulator A terminal and to solenoid live terminal), this lasted till 09A-315817N, when the switch (957E-11654B) was replaced by the keyless 957E-11654C and separate key switch E!ADKN-11575B to combat water entry. On these latest tractors a brown wire is added to the BATT terminal (to key switch), there being no COIL terminal here, and the other key switch terminal having a brown wire to the heater button where the red wire to the starter switch is also moved. This is quite clear on the original wiring diagrams but might not be on later diagrams made by aftermarket companies or similar. I recommend you clean the switch so you can see the markings for each terminal.
