Hello I'm Mike and new to the Forum.....I'm in Australia(NSW).
We bought an old Dexta recently. The gear sticks were jumping out of their guides and therefore the tractor was getting stuck in gear so we built them up a bit with welding. They are fine now, but when we try and put it in gear they grind a bit so you have to work the clutch to get it in gear. Once in gear all is fine, and when you use the clutch whilst in gear the tractor does stop. The PTO does not grind when you engage it. Do you think we may have built them up too much or does this sound like something else?
Thanks

Welcome to the Fordson forum.
I suspect that the clutch isn't disengaging properly, it may require adjusting. Unless of course you are trying to change gear on the move!

Mike,
Also remember that the Dexta has no syncromesh in the gearbox, its just a straight forward gear on gear shift.
Fords recommended you pushed the clutch down and counted to 5 before you shifted the gears.
If she has been stood up for a time, there may be rust on the clutch or even a pilot bearing seizing or tight. Work her for a time and see if it improves.
