Differences between Petrol and Diesel Dextas...

Post by Miles »

I have been doing some reading and I have noted the following differences on Petrol version....

longer length due to 4-cyl engine
longer clutch housing
right hand exhaust
clockwise rotating proofmeter
no starting handle
extra fuel tank
rear battery position
starter button instead of warm-up button
choke instead of shut-off knob

Any other items not in common with diesel version?

Few errors there:

Clutch housing is the same as the diesel. The difference was in the starter "bump". Fords standardised the clutch housing on all tractors from November 1960. No Petrol Dextas were in production before November 1960.

Export diesel Dextas and Super Dextas had the battery on the footplate in some cases and in others they had two 12V batteries, one under the bonnet and one on the footplate.

Petrol Dextas have a starting handle.

The starter button is the heater button wired differently.

Not all petrol Dextas have the extra fuel tank.

Petrol Dextas are far quieter and pull at very low revs.

Petrol Dextas have a different wiring loom.

Petrol Dextas have a different radiator with more tubes and fins.

Petrol Dextas serial numbers start with 959E until November 1961, then they become part of the "common" serial numbering for all Dextas.
