Hi all

I'm a newby, who is looking to assist my father in law with his dexta

Two issues at present:

1. the rear hydraulic lift (he has a link box fitted at present) is unable to lift a load, (I have to shovel stuff in by hand!!!). It does stay lifted, and if you leave it overnight it seems to stay lifted. Suggestions?? Is this the pump and'or filter or other?? Any suggestions on fixing and parts I will need?

2. the rear brake shoes are becoming inneffective, I believe this is due to oil leakage from the rear axle contaminating the shoes. Any suggestions on a fix? I guess this is the rear oil seals? I've looked at the parts manual, there looks to be two sets per side? Again suggestions welcome, also any views on the parts/special tools I may need (in particular oil seals dimensions).

Finally, any suggestions on parts suppliers?? I am in Suffolk, England, but my father in law is in Donegal, Ireland?

There are many people more knowable here than I. Dont forget you can get the workshop manuals and oem parts lists on the main page for FREE these are an excellent source of info.

Regarding your oily brakes, we had the same problem a few years back. The brake back plate had obvious signs of oil on the lower part from the drive shaft housing.

This was going back a few years when internet was 14.4k dialup only but we changed only the inner seal. Pretty easy job except the brake drum wouldnot come off. My Dad took the shaft out with brakes complete and took it to work. Using the 100 ton press it shot off with an almighty bang - apparently no damage too.

Am I right in thinking to do the outer seal you'll need to remove the drive shaft collar like you were changing the bearings? If so it means a new collar which has to be fitted hot as it shrinks to the shaft when it cools.

The above link may help, Agriline sell the seals for £5 each but they are a standard size so any Agricultural Enginners or decent car part supplier should get them.

Chances are that you will need to reline the shoes too, we did pay for a pro bonded job but this is quite specialist now. New shoe linings are available for less than £20 but these will need to be riveted on, as long as you have or make a rivet set tool its a quick job.

It sounds like you have a hydraulic pump which is faulty. This would be my first port of call from the symptoms you have.

The bigest problem with axle seals is getting the collar off. It sometimes has to be split to release it. Point to remember, Fergy collars are the same and cheaper than Dexta ones.
