Just a bit puzzled Brian about your picture and then I realised that must be a Petrol model.

When buying a replacement precleaner, be aware that the air vanes may swirl the air in the opposite direction from the original. If that is the case the air will be swirling in the wrong direction when it hits the vanes in the down tube of the air cleaner. This is hard to explain, but if you look at the vanes in the mushroom and the vanes in the air cleaner you can figure it out. I bought a replacement and ended up repairing my old one because I felt that it did a better job. With the tractor running I can feel the old mushroom "pulse" air out the vents in the top of the mushroom. I have actually seen bits of grass get ejected from the top vents.

Terry, you have raised a very interesting point.

Vanes in the air cleaner?

That is something European Dexta tractors do not have, the down pipe is just a straight tube down to the oil so it does not matter which way the swirl goes.

Have you got a "dry" cleaner? I know that they have two sets on vanes.

Any chance of a picture to add to our knowledge base?

Jerry,

Had you worried there for a minute! Yes that is Dotty. The air cleaner stack is the same as the diesel.

Here we are looking down into the air cleaner, note the vanes cause a clockwise swirl. It is not a dry cleaner, Brian, you can see the oil in the cup reflecting the camera flash.

This is a picture of my original mushroom, again a clockwise swirl.

And the vents on the outside of the mushroom will through heavy chaff out before it can go down the tube.

Yes, that makes sense.
The vanes are opposite for the export models destined for Australia/New Zealand.
All to do with the direction water swirls down the plug hole.

It's been a long day, I'm going to bed :run:

Let us know how you get on with that, I've never heard of anyone putting a K&N filter on a Dexta before. I wonder if that small a filter will be big enough.

Brian, I guess one doesn't get to old to learn, does one. I didn't know about the vanes either, I'll have to give mine a good looking over.
See ya
