injector pump super dexta needed

I think i need to replace the injector pump on a 63 super dexta. The drain plug was leaking, I went to tighten and the threads just split and broke off the housing. I cant figure out a way to repair.
I think this pump has been run dry for a while. This is an inhereted tractor that i recently started to fix up and just do simple maintenance to. When I checked the oil level in this pump it was pretty much dry. This tractor runs great for about 2 hrs of brush cutting then starts to lose power almost like fuel is being choked off. Temp guage stays in normal range. I prime it a little bit or start it after a few minutes and it idles fine.????
It did this 3 months ago before I started to fix up. I have replaced lift pump.
Could these issues be related(dry injector pump/2hr work) or any other ideas?

It is not the injection pump that lacks oil, it is the governor. The pump gets its lubrication from the diesel flowing through it.
Have you checked the tank filter in the fuel tap?
You may have to remove the pump to sort your broken screw but this will be far cheaper than a new or even second hand pump.

When I stripped the threads on my pump, I removed the pump, removed the gear, took the front cover off and then I installed a heli-coil repair. You will need to have the front cover off in order to get all the metal bits out of the housing. The threads are fine threads so you need to try and find the right heli-coil kit. I used the wrong one and ended up with coarse threads, I then had to replace the bolt. Search back a page or two for my post concerning the replacement of the seals in the injection pump. I would recommend replacing the seals while you have it apart. Make sure you mark the gears before you remove the pump, or you will have to get it back in time. BTDT.
PS A replacement pump will more than likely cost between $700~$1,000, so use caution and care while handling your old one!

so the lack of oil that was in the housing most likely is not the cause of the tractor starving for fuel or dying after about 2 hrs of work, its probably a filter problem? this would make some sense since it idles fine .
that would be great if i dont need to replace that pump. i just need to plug it to hold some oil in the housing for the govenor, the threads completely broke off but i will find a way. thanks for all the help.

Hi, I have the same problem that you had, hence, Super Dexta deisel runs great for about an hour or so with a 4 ft slasher then starts to loose power. The temp is normal and no loss of coolant, the oil pressure is also normal but begins to struggle and drop in revs then slowly builds up again. Idle is OK . Did you find out what your problem was.. Thanks for your reply. I never thought of valve clearances because it had been running so well prior but this is worth checking..
I really appreciate your input as I'm a bit worried about doing any damage. Kind of attached to the old girl ,Regards John.

Take a look at your fuel filler cap (on the fuel tank) also...It needs to be a vented type, and the vent needs to be open, not plugged with rust or dirt.. The oil filler caps will fit on the fuel tank, but aren't vented. They often get switched around, or fuel cap gets replaced with wrong type. Some of the suppliers confuse the issue...they advertise one cap as suitable for either when they are not.
These older engines, with external fuel pumps, need vented fuel tanks. If the tank is not vented, a vacuum slowly builds up in the tank that the pump eventually cannot overcome.
