Axel Oil Leak

Hello again all,

it seems everything on my little Dexta is getting to that age where it requires attention. Its recently developed a small but noticeable leak at both brake drums. I've done some reading up onthe procedure, but would I be able to just replace the outer seals, or do I need to delve in and replace the inner seals and re-set the bearing preload etc.

Obviously new brake linings and a good clean up of the drums will be needed.

Thanks for any advice.

Replacing the outer seals is a lot of work. Replacing the inner seals may cure the problem. Have done this job on a Fergie 35 , construction is same as on Dexta also size of inner seals is similar. This 35 had surface of rear axles pitted were inner seals run on them. so fitted speedy sleeves and new seals with succes.
The perfect job is replacing inner and outer seals , check bearings and fill bearing cavity with fresh long life grease. It is neccesary to check bearing play after fitting new seals. The bearings are not pre loaded!
